Matric Results 2022/2023
Education has always been a means to control the transmission of values and mould the spirit before dominating the soul. Luckily, we have a coherent and transcendent education system in South Africa that upholds the rights of all citizens through equality. The matric results are a gateway to the lands of higher education and serve as a gauge that ascertains the kind of university a student can land based on their competence. The in-depth analysis below thoroughly details the sources available and the processes through which one can probe their results.
Online Sources
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) covers information on the entire curriculum of the matriculation system along with a portal through which matric results can be accessed online. Apart from that, one can also access links to past Grade 12 examination papers for practice and study guides to hone the knowledge gained in school. Subsequent to the culmination of final examinations, the ‘Quick Links’ tab on the right-hand of the home page shows the link to the results. After that, a student is expected to navigate the NSC (National Senior Certificate) exams results page and undergo the registration process using the student number and examination number. The result card can also be downloaded from this page.
The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) is a leader in innovative assessments that are relevant to South Africa and has garnered a laudable response from students and parents owing to its development of assessment instruments that require a critical response from learners. The IEB has cultivated students’ inherent aptitude for critical thinking and logical reasoning. For students appearing in IEB examinations, the link to the results is highlighted on the homepage of ieb.co.za. Handing in, the examination number and date of birth gives away the result of that particular student.
Certain newspapers also provide the results of students on their websites. Services like News24 and The Sowetan, and EWN Matric portal make available the registration pages for the accessibility of results beforehand. For News24, one needs to enter the examination number and school name; however, for The Sowetan, one needs to enter their matric number and school name.
On the contrary, one can download MatricsMate – a joint venture of South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and DBE – which is a free-of-cost application that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or Apple Store. Registration through the national identification number and examination number divulges the matriculation result.
Matriculants can also check their results through the SACAI (South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute) website. SACAI provides NSC services to a diverse range of institutions. The results can be accessed through the header on the right of the website’s page.
Offline Sources
The high school through which a particular student appeared for the examinations provides the most conventional route for the availability of results. A short trip to the respective school gives access to the statement of results; however, the matriculation certificate is only available a few months after the results day.
On the other hand, SMS is another conventional route through which one can send their ID and exam number to 35658. The NSC result would be sent to the phone number. IEB candidates can send their ID and exam number to 35135.
