Adapting to the modern way of doing things with ease and with the help of technology, parents, guardians, and applicants can now apply for admission online to any institution of their preference and follow up if it was successful or not.
University of Witwatersrand (WITS) isn’t an exception regarding schools that have provided alternatives for applicants to track their application status easily at any given time and place. With the creation of the Wits online school portal, applicants can access the platform for whatever information they need.
Before an applicant can track their application status, they should follow the necessary steps for application.
An applicant will need the following when applying;
- A certified copy of ID or Passport Number
- A personal email address
- Certified copy of final results (grade 12)
- Copies of academic records of previous institutions attended must be provided
- Original copy of paid application fee. The amount paid is non-refundable.
Using the online application method made accessible by the institution, applicants would have to visit the University of Witwatersrand website and apply via the link provided below;

An applicant must make sure the application is opened at the time he or she applies.
Now, an applicant is of free will to choose a maximum of three programmes of his or her choice when applying.
It is important to upload the necessary documents as well when the application is being done. The final grade results and certified copies of matric certificates, and academic records of previous institutions attended must all be uploaded when applying.
A non-refundable amount is paid as an application fee in the university’s application fee account.
After the application has been completed fully and submitted, an applicant receives an email from the institution to acknowledge their application. A letter of acknowledgment which contains the applicant’s student’s number is sent to them. This will enable the applicant to log in with ease when it’s time to follow up on their application status.
A successful applicant has his or her name in the school’s portable that contains the application status. They receive a message as well confirming his acceptance into the institution. This only happens after six to eight weeks of the deadline for application. The requirements are expected to be followed for full enrollment into the university.
However, if an applicant does not receive any message after weeks of the deadline, there is no need to lose hope. The University of Witwatersrand has made available a website that will ease an applicant’s pains of having to move from their homes to the school to check if they’ve been accepted or not. All they have to do is to follow the required steps to track their application status.
1. Visit the University of Witwatersrand website. Open the link https://self-service.wits.ac.za
2. Enter the required PIN or student’s number and submit it to be able to log in.
Successful applicants can proceed to take notice of important information and download and print their admission letters.
